Transgender Day of Remembrance
Transgender Day of Remembrance is an important day for anyone who is part of the LGBT community. It is a day that helps recognize those who have left us due to heinous crimes fueled by hatred against those who may be lesbian, gay, bisexual or transexual.
This started back on November 28, 1998 when Rita Hester was brutally murdered for being transgender. Since, that has been the day marked as Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day to not only honor her, but everyone else who has fallen due to anti-transgender crimes. Thousands of people worldwide
have lost their lives due to hate crimes due to being transgender.

One of the most recent was of young person from Turkey; Ramazan Cetin, 24. She was killed in a Turkish hospital by her brother who shot her in front of other patients with a shotgun. His claim was to "cleanse 'his' honor". This is one of thousands who have lost their lives living the life they felt comfortable with.
I believe that we as a community need to stand up worldwide for our own human rights and demand that the civil liberties given to every individual in any country regardless of gender identity. Human rights protect us all, not just those who are considered to be socially accepted due to following the standards set forth by most others. These rights have been designed to protect each and everyone of us, even those part of the LGBT community.
